Ceramics course on Sunday mornings

Discover the magic of ceramics with this 7-week workshop course. Immerse yourself in a world of clay and discover the art of shaping with your own hands. During the course we will learn different techniques of hand building and you will have time to work on your own mini collection.

What is the hand grip method?

The hand pinching technique is an age-old technique in ceramics where you pinch the clay with your hands and fingers and form it into the desired shape. During the workshop you will be guided step by step in the process of building your own created artwork using this technique.

You start by kneading and preparing the clay, after which you slowly and carefully start to pinch and shape the clay into the desired shape of your mug, plate or vase. You can play with the thickness of the walls, the shape and a handle to create a style that suits you completely. During the course we will work with coil building, slab rolling and hand pinching.

The price of the course includes:

- Coffee, tea and some snacks.

- Choice of natural or black clay and underglaze.

- You may choose a glaze that I will order for you, to glaze your items during the glazing class.

- Clay for home use, so that you can practice again in peace and quiet.

- 2-hour lessons where you can work in peace and have all the time to immerse yourself in your creative bubble.

- The opportunity to start your own mini project during one of the last lessons and make whatever you want.

- Guidance and useful tips & tricks about ceramics. You will learn different techniques and useful facts.

- Personal guidance in small groups from a graduated art teacher.

- At the end of the course you will have made at least: a mug, three breakfast plates, a vase, spoons, bowls and a dish. The items you have made are dishwasher safe and strong, so you can treat them (with love) as your own tableware. Maybe you want to give an item to your grandchildren as an heirloom. Or put something in a time capsule for people 2359 years from now.

Practical information:

Start of the course: The first lesson of this course is on Sunday morning, October 13th.

For whom: Anyone who wants to get acquainted with ceramics, or has worked with clay before

Where: Atelier Studio Corvo - Travertijnstraat 6 in Groningen

How long: Each lesson lasts 2 hours from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

And after the course: I will prepare the glaze firing and you can pick up all your items in +/- 4 weeks.
